Bringing home a New Puppy: Some ideas to help you get started........
1. You will need a collar and leash. If you are traveling to pick up your new pup you will need it for the stops heading back home to give your new puppy a break out of the car.
2. Food and water dishes . We use the raised dishes, here at Big Momma's. We find it is the most comfortable for the puppies when eating. (Also, if you are traveling a long way from home to pick up your new puppy bring a small dish and a bottle of water for your trip back home. This way when you stop for a puppy break you can offer water as well.)
3. Puppy food, your new puppy has been eating Victor Hi Pro Plus while here, and we will send some with you home. If you plan to make a change in food we recommend a grain free kibble, and mix the Victor we give you with the new food you decide to feed together for a few a couple of weeks. This will be less stressful on your new puppies stomach.
4. Be sure to offer your new pup Toys and Bones to chew on. Let your puppy know these are his and your shoes are not his! Toys that are durable to avoid choking hazards. Bones and Antlers are great! Avoid any toys that are stringy and unravel easily these should be avoided and are very dangerous choking hazards.
4. A kennel or crate for when your away from home. Please don't place your new puppy in a closed room and expect things not to be chewed on when you return home.
5. Bedding for your new pup. A puppy mat or bedding is fine, but you will need teach your pup that his toys are for chewing and not his new bed..
These are a few helpful tips to get you started.
I will be sending more information home with you and your new puppy in your puppy packet.
